God is awesome

I am writing this first post in the early morning at a lake, the sun rises over a mirror-like water, it is a bit hazy, the colors run from pink to light blue-grey. The sun is shining in fiery orange over the silhouette of the wooded hilltop. The trees in the foreground are sharply defined and some ducks are bathing in this splendor…

It’s not this magnificent everywhere, but there are certainly beautiful things to be found around you (even the wings of an ordinary housefly are fascinating when viewed individually). What do you see, that causes you to stand in awe and realize: So amazing!

God created this world and when I look at it now in spring, I am fascinated by its extravagant abundance, grandiose colors, exuberant creativity and stunning beauty! My heart is stirred, I am touched because I see that God is an incomparable, wonderful creator.

I am convinced that the God who designed this scenery and who stages it anew every morning has a huge heart for us humans. Why else would he spoil us with such a world of colors, shapes, sounds, tastes and feelings for all senses?

In Romans 1:20 the Bible points out to us that we can recognize God in creation.

“Since the creation of the world, men have seen the earth and the heavens and all that God created, and can clearly recognize Him, the invisible God, in His eternal power and divine nature.

Without love, the creation of such a world would not be possible and it shows me that we are important to him. Why else is there this diversity and abundance? Love is God’s nature! “…God is love…” we read in 1 John 4:16.

Have you ever considered that God could have created us with only two flavors, with the colors black and white and with only three notes on the musical scale? Imagine the first bite into a freshly baked, fragrant slice of bread with butter, isn’t that a pleasure for all senses? Or do you enjoy the birds that chirp so enthusiastically from the trees on a cool spring morning? Whatever it is, I am so grateful for the variety of sensory impressions we have! This is the only way enjoyment is possible! This raises the question whether pleasure and joy are essential for life. (Now that I’m writing this, I realize that they are definitely vital. But this is the topic for another post…)

Did God want to do something beneficial for us with his magnificent creation (we ourselves are part of it, by the way!) in his lavish love and spoil us with it? It is one of his ways to show us his nature, his extravagant love!
